Mid Century Marvel: 7911 Santa Elena Street In Print

Jamie Oyler had been quite happy living in Oak Forest, but for years had driven through Glenbrook Valley’s Mid Century wonderland on his way to and from Hobby Airport. Over the years one home on Santa Elena became his favorite. “I often thought ‘If that house ever goes up for sale, I’ve got to buy it,’” says Jaime. In 2007 he got his wish. “I found out the house was for sale just by accident. It was the Mod of the Month on HoustonMod.org and the open house was that same day.” Jamie promptly drove down to tour the home and quickly made an offer.

The house he long sought and then bought was built 1956 and designed by architect Symond Doughtie of Doughtie & Porterfield, who also collaborated with MacKie & Kamrath and Lloyd Borget on the design of the Pasadena State Bank. This home, like most of the homes in Glenbrook Valley, was a commissioned design for an individual client.
